Job Purposes::

Reporting to an Associate Director, a Career Consultant provides experiential and career employment planning & consulting, specializing in content delivery for a career-specific population:

1) Engineering and Computer Science, 2) Liberal Arts, 3) Education & Human Services, 4) Business, 5) Science and Math, or 6) Nursing & Health academic/career programs.

A Career Consultant collaboratively works as a part of a centralized team to provide comprehensive delivery of services to career-specific populations of student, alumni, faculty and employers.

Required Qualifications::

  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs, career development or related field.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible student advising experience in a university environment or related setting.
  • Versatile team player with demonstrated skills in the areas of written and verbal communication, collaboration, counseling, advising and presenting.

Preferred Qualifications::

  • Demonstrated experience in a university or related setting.
  • Employer development & event planning experience.
  • Graduate level coursework & training in career counseling, career assessment, & career development theory.
  • Demonstrated experience with project management.
  • Demonstrated experience with collaborative initiatives.
  • Experience with content development for web sites and social media.

Essential Functions and percent of time::

(50%) Deliver experiential & career employment career-specific services. Provide one-on-one and small group career planning and career consulting with a focus on marketable skills, job search strategies, interview techniques, networking, business etiquette and professional use of social media. Present career education sessions. Engage students with career programs, services and resources. Promote department website, database management tools, and social media accounts. Fulfill classroom presentation requests.

(20%) Foster employer relation activities for new and existing employers. Organize career-specific recruitment and student/employer engagement to include career events, employer panels, networking sessions, campus interviews and employer marketing sessions. Promote employer opportunities for experiential, co-op, intern and career employment. Assist with career-specific programs and initiatives.

(20%) Lead career-specific programs through delivery of comprehensive service to students, faculty, and staff. Build and maintain career-specific faculty relations and work on going with the college staff and the Division of Student Success team members.

(10%) Assist with the collection of career-specific outcome measures. Maintain department standards and procedures. Participate in unit-level training. Complete other Career Center duties as assigned.

Working Conditions::

Some evening and weekend activities expected.
