The position's primary purpose is to develop innovative business applications and system integrations that create efficiencies and improved services within Student Affairs' departments. This position will interact with department directors and staff to develop technology based solutions that automate repetitive/manual business processes and connect data between disparate systems. This position uses existing technologies and identifies future technologies to assist units in providing, extending and/or improving services to the campus community. This individual is required to utilize server-side web development technologies, create complex data queries and work with system API's/Web Services to deliver information in an organized, efficient, and effective manner. This position is responsible for using a variety of programming technologies and administration of multiple database, application and web servers that deliver information vital to the operation of student services. This individual ensures all systems and associated technologies are in-compliance with University accepted policies and procedures while accomplishing the directives of this position. Responsibilities and Duties:
Application Development – Design, build and/or support small web and desktop/mobile applications to manage data collection, reporting, and automate data feeds between disparate systems both on-campus and off-campus. Develop applications, scripts, macros, and SQL queries to manage data and allow departments quick access to data to promote departmental success and effective self-evaluation. Server Support and Administration – Provide application administration services for departmental applications to include: access control, data import/export configuration, tuning, and monitoring as well as handling the installation of application patches and upgrades. Administration activities include server log reviews, data backup verification, firewall configurations,and system health/performance monitoring.
Project Management/Consultancy Services – Consult with department leaders to consider client needs, identify appropriate technological solutions and incorporate into ongoing development plans. Prepare project proposals and timelines that include technical specifications, vendor quotes, detailed budgetary itemization, needed on-campus and external resources. Ensures all systems and processes are documented (including training materials) and compliant with university security policies/best practices. Help Student Affair's departments create process flows, standard business procedures and identify opportunities to integrate recommended technologies into department's functional operations. Customer Support – Provide daily support of departmental information systems to include issues with demographic imports, data collection, data feeds, user access, and all in-house custom applications, databases and supporting software and hardware. Periodically assess system performance and user needs while working to identify cost reduction strategies and/or negotiate pricing. Serve as a liaison between Student Affairs' departments, Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS), external entities and Student Affairs Technology Services.
Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
