Position Summary

The Engineering Inclusion and Diversity (EGRID) unit in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a specialist-advisor to serve as our Programs Coordinator.  Candidates must have a master’s degree in engineering, education, student affairs or closely related field at the time of appointment.  This is a full-time, fixed-term position with an initial appointment of three years and is renewable contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. EGRID exists to support the college’s core value of belonging and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.  They work toward creating a welcoming/inclusive campus community for students from underrepresented backgrounds by collaborating with faculty, staff and students to develop programs and resources that will support curricular and co-curricular success.

EGRID is seeking a highly motivated individual who can work collaboratively with EGRID staff to help recruit and retain a diverse student body. Qualifications include strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communications skills. The successful candidate will have at least three years of demonstrated success in implementing inclusive student programming that builds community and promotes a sense of belonging for students. EGRID’s goal is to prepare students to succeed academically and professionally.

Duties of the Programs Coordinator consist of the following:

  • Advise engineering students on topics such as student success and leadership development.
  • Implement/support recruiting, retention and educational activities which may involve evenings and weekends. 
  • Serve as the lead for international and veteran student initiatives.
  • Coordinate corporate networking events and student mentoring initiatives for students.  
  • Coordinate initiatives to onboard students to EGRID programming, including but not limited to, participation in Engineering Colloquium and Future Spartan Engineers tours.
  • Assist with data reporting to university, federal and corporate stakeholders. 
  • Represent EGRID on select university committees and events. 
  • Co-teach non-credit freshmen orientation classes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other program offices in engineering and at the university, as well as, faculty, staff, students, university administrators and external business/corporate representatives to build linkages and support for DEI initiatives.
