Athletics Embedded Counselor
Counseling Services at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill a full time Athletics Embedded Counselor position.

The SUNY Oswego Counseling Services (CS) offers multi-disciplinary, comprehensive, and diverse services to students that enable them to be more successful in their academic, personal, and career pursuits. CS is IACS accredited and hosts masters-level graduate trainees and counselor education doctoral-level trainees for clinical internships from five accredited education programs.

CS' efforts focus on helping students reduce psychological symptoms, cope with life events and developmental tasks, improve interpersonal skills and relationships, and increase self-knowledge and problem-solving ability. CS promotes equity and respect for individual and cultural differences and offers consulting services to the entire University community. CS is part of the Division of Student Affairs which contributes to and facilitates critical learning and development within healthy, inclusive, and supportive communities.

The Athletics Embedded Counselor position will contribute to the center's goal of making mental health services accessible for all students.

Description of Responsibilities:

• Provide drop-in hours to student athletes and Athletics Department staff for mental health consultation.
• Coordinate Lets Talk for student athletes, designed as an outreach program to engage students by providing informal walk-in brief counseling/consultations with a counselor one-on-one.
• Serves as liaison between CS and the SUNY Oswego Athletics Department.
• Assists with referrals from Athletics to CS.
• Provides consultation and programming to Athletics staff and student athletes on a variety of topics including sports psychology.
• Provides training and professional development for staff and trainees on, amongst other topics, mental health challenges for athletes and providing therapy to student athletes.
• Provides direct clinical services, including intakes, psychotherapy, group counseling and crisis intervention, to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population.
• Provides clinical supervision and training as needed for trainees from multiple disciplines.
• Provides consultation to faculty, administrators, families and community providers about students of concern and campus wide mental health issues.
• Assists in developing and implementing mental health programs for the campus community
• Participates in multidisciplinary and administrative team meetings.
• Serves in the on-call rotation
• Performs administrative duties as assigned

RESPONSIBILITY TO COOPERATE:

Staff members must possess a commitment and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of State University of New York at Oswego, SUNYAC or affiliated conference, and the NCAA. Staff members must cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, SUNYAC or affiliated conference, and/or the institution with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations. Any person who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective actions a set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repeated violations

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

• Master's degree or higher in a mental health related field (clinical or counseling psychology, social work, mental health counseling) from an accredited program.
• Licensed or license eligible as a mental health provider in New York State.
• Knowledge and experience addressing mental health needs of student athletes.
• Experience in providing group services in a clinical setting.
• Commitment to providing multicultural counseling.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse university community of students, faculty, administrators and families.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with providing counseling and therapy in a university/college mental health setting.
• Knowledge and experience in the field of sports psychology
• Excellent administrative, communication, leadership, decision-making skills and the ability to work autonomously within a team atmosphere.
• Strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills and an ability to provide outreach and training to groups of people.
• Experience providing risk assessments and crisis intervention.
