Position Information:Under the general direction of the Academic Advisor Supervisor, the Academic Advisor is responsible for the coordination of the Undeclared program and provides fundamental academic advising to current undergraduate students and prospective students, primarily Undeclared, Pre-Business, and students seeking readmission. Serves as the coordinator for the creation and implementation of college level programming, including the development and coordination of programs designed to enhance academic advising to targeted populations with specialized needs. Coordinates the CHASS communication cycle and is the primary liaison to CHASS First for the Undeclared program. The Academic Advisor uses principles of developmental academic advising and knowledge of teaching and learning theory to promote academic, career and life goals in an effort to support student retention, timeliness to degree, academic success, as well as intellectual and personal development. Academic advising is the primary area of work and responsibility comprised of academic advising, program development and implementation, and other programmatic support duties. Serves as liaison to department academic advisors in assigned departments.
The full salary range for the Student Academic Advisor 3 is $56,000 - $96,400 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving. Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Ability to multi-task. Thorough knowledge of department/school college policies, procedures, and requirements. Ability to effectively, professionally, and tactfully interact and communicate, both orally and in writing, with students, faculty, staff and visitors. Skill in independently composing letters, memos, reports, and other written communication materials using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, composition, text editing, and proofreading skills. Skills requisite to advise/counsel diverse personalities using sound and mature judgment. Ability to work collaboratively as part of an advising team. Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) or other equivalent software, the internet, e-mail messaging, and web-based software applications and online student information systems. Skill in accurate record keeping with strict attention to detail. Skill in organizing tasks, documents and materials with efficiency and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a service environment that is subject to frequent interruptions. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Knowledge of the applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position, including the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of college/school policies, procedures, and requirements. Knowledge of the applicable University of California policies governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position. Ability to extract, compile, analyze, and present pertinent data effectively. Knowledge of web site design and maintenance. Demonstrated experience with SIS+. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Access skills or similar database applications Ability to train others to use student information systems. Experience using Blackboard or similar learning management system.
