Reporting jointly to the Dean of Students/VP for Student Affairs and the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education the inaugural Director provides coordination, oversight, planning and implementation to support educational access and success of undocumented students at Loyola Marymount University. In coordination with campus partners, the Director provides academic and personal guidance to undocumented students and manages individual student cases. The Director further collaborates with campus partners on retention and student success initiatives, including but not limited to campus orientation and the development and implementation of high impact practices that assist undocumented students in persisting to graduation. The Director performs highly complex professional student services work in reviewing difficult individual/group/organizational problems, developing and recommending courses of action, and implementing proposed solutions. The Director/Coordinator utilizes a combination of high-level analytical skills and high-level interpersonal skills to address the day-to-day and long-term aspects of the work.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Provides overall mission, strategic planning, management, assessment, and evaluation for the DREAM Center.

  • Establishes vision, priorities, policy development, and goals including short and long-range strategic
    goals.

  • Conducts assessment and evaluation of student and campus education needs, and program efficacy.

  • Provides support services, advising, referral and mentorship.

  • Chairs the Undocumented Student Advisory Committee (USAC).

  • Responsible for the creation of new initiatives to address service gaps for undocumented students and their families, either directly or in collaboration with campus partners such as Mission and Ministry, Enrollment Management, the Loyola Law Immigration Clinic, and others.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining strategic partnerships, on and off campus, to address and support undocumented students' persistence, retention, and success.

  • Coordinates the provision of more focused and enhanced campus resources and services to undocumented students to support their enrollment, retention, and completion.

  • Implements strategies to ensure undocumented students receive needed assistance in navigating financial aid challenges and accessing resources including academic and career counseling, in collaboration with campus staff.

  • Partners with school and college departments to coordinate meaningful and relevant programming focused on resources and support available to undocumented students.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of students and their families.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requisite Qualifications

  • Typically, a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field.

  • A minimum of five years of student programming and support experience, preferably with an underserved student population at a college or university.

  • Knowledgeable of policies related to immigration and subject matter expertise on undocumented students' needs and issues, federal, state, and institutional policies relevant to undocumented and mixed status students.

  • Interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills to represent the department and communicate effectively to diverse audiences, and to interact sensitively with multicultural constituencies.

  • English-Spanish bilingual skills preferred.

  • Ability to manage department budget.

  • Ability to establish and implement short and long-term program goals and objectives.

  • Ability to conduct assessment and evaluation of student and campus education needs, and program efficacy.

Salary range

$72,500.00 - $98,400.00 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
