The Weinberg Dean’s Office of Undergraduate Studies & Advising (OUSA) at Northwestern University seeks to hire at least two College Advisers with joint appointments in advising and a Weinberg department or program. Ideal candidates will have experience advising, particularly working with students who identify as historically underrepresented, lower-income, minoritized, and/or first-generation college students. Primary daily responsibilities include individual meetings with advisees and participation in advising office activities and committees.
Our mission is to support all students as they define and pursue their unique academic paths and think critically about the intersections of their academic and personal identities. Over half of our student body identifies as having a minoritized racial or ethnic identity; 15% are first-generation; over 20% are Pell Grant recipients; and over 10% are international. We seek to provide holistic advising experiences that prepare all students to become effective learners, contributors, and leaders. By developing long-term advising relationships, we mentor students through all phases of their academic careers.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or terminal degree in an academic field represented in the College's curriculum and complementing the disciplines of the existing advising group
Primary commitment to long-term, student-centered advising as demonstrated by experience engaging undergraduates in the liberal arts and sciences
Commitment to developing effective mentoring relationships with students
Awareness of the range of challenges individual students may face
Experience teaching or otherwise working with undergraduates that demonstrates the potential for excellence in the classroom and in advising
Interest in being an active faculty member of a liberal arts and sciences department or program
Superior communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to master relevant campus policies and procedures
