Job Description Summary
The Office of Student Programs & Engagement (SP&E) enriches Bentley's transformative undergraduate learning experience by creating environments and opportunities that facilitate authentic social connections and holistic student development. Our student-centered and values-driven programs, leadership experiences, and services bring students together and prepare them to be change agents at Bentley and beyond. SP&E is comprised of seven full time professional staff and two graduate assistants. The department is inclusive of campus traditions and programs, fraternity and sorority life, student organization support and advisement, student center program management and operations, student employment, and student governance and activity fee responsibility. The team works collaboratively, both internally and with other departments within the Division of Student Affairs, to achieve its mission and learning outcomes for students.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Programs & Engagement (SP&E), the Program Coordinator is a live-on staff member responsible for promoting an innovative and high-quality co-curricular experience through data-driven and theory-informed advising and programming efforts. The Program Coordinator serves as the primary departmental resource for the management of Bentley's community of 100+ recognized student organizations, including programs, policies, and functions that support student organization success and student leader development. The Program Coordinator is responsible for planning and supporting departmental events and trainings related to student organization success each semester and is expected serve as a resource for students to enhance co-curricular engagement and achieve institutional, divisional, and departmental strategic goals.

Essential Duties



  • Serve as the primary departmental resource for student organizations by supporting needs related to event planning and approvals, developing policies contained in the Student Organization Guidebook, and serving as an administrator for Campus Groups. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for communicating policy, assisting advisors, overseeing travel and high-risk events, processing contracts, and promoting strong connection between organizations and the department. The Program Coordinator will ensure that programs and organizations are regularly assessed, reflect the needs and interests of students, and enhance the overall co-curricular experience at Bentley.

  • Supervise a team of 5 organization assistants, our student employee team within SP&E responsible for serving as resources available to meet with organization members to support successful program planning and administrative tasks related to event planning. The Program Coordinator is responsible for hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and providing team building for this team of student employees in alignment with the department's student employment program and philosophy.

  • Manage the department's connections to student organization faculty/staff advisors, providing regular communication, trainings, and resources. The Program Coordinator will help student organizations to identify faculty/staff advisors as needed and will equip advisors with the necessary skills, tools, and resources to be successful in their advisor role.

  • Provide oversight of the planning and execution of programs and activities that support student organization success. The Program Coordinator will coordinate Activities Fairs, student leader workshops and trainings, student leader awards and recognition programs, and student leader elections.

  • Advise the Senior Class Cabinet in their development and execution of traditional senior events, including annual events such as Casino Night, the Senior Boat Cruise, and Commencement Ball. The Program Coordinator will also maintain a vision and philosophy for the entire class cabinet model to ensure consistency in traditions, advocacy, communication, and goal setting across all four classes.

  • Serve as part of the Student Organization on-call rotation to ensure safety, security, customer service, and assistance to large-scale and high-risk student organization sponsored programs and events. The Program Coordinator will be required to respond to phone calls during evenings and weekends to assist student leaders or advisors with emergency or high-risk situations.

  • Must live on campus in a provided apartment in order to easily support regular late-night and weekend programming throughout the academic year. The Program Coordinator will be expected to be regularly present at evening and late-night programs, attend student meetings, be available for after-hours student organization support, and support divisional initiatives and programs as needed. In the event of a campus emergency, the Program Coordinator will serve as a designated staff member for student and programmatic support.

  • Serve as a BentleyPlus advisor by attending role-specific trainings, facilitating advising sessions, and sending follow-up communication to advisees.




Other Duties



  • Assist with department-wide Student Programs & Engagement programming.

  • Support the department's social and racial justice planning and goals.

  • Serve on divisional and campus-wide committees.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree conferred by June 2023 with knowledge of student development theory and 1-2 years of event/planning experience.

  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field with knowledge of student development theory preferred.

  • Experience and/or interest in campus programming, student organizations, and student employment.

  • Experience with advising student organizations is desired.

  • Attention to detail, ability to manage ongoing and multiple responsibilities, and strong work-ethic.

  • Passion for working in a fast-paced and dynamic department as an active and engaged team member.

  • Experience in multicultural settings, diversity training programs, second language fluency, or coursework in multicultural perspectives is desirable.




Work Environment



  • Fast paced environment, evening and weekend hours as related to programs and services required.

  • Depending on the program/event, physical involvement with respect to set up of furniture or equipment may be necessary.

  • Ability to work in an open flexible office space, which allows for increased collaboration among colleagues and students.

  • The position requires an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
