The Student Involvement and Leadership Office aims to enhance all aspects of the collegiate experience at GW, including on-campus living, fraternity & sorority life, leadership development, student programming and organizations, and outdoor adventure, in addition to supporting military & veteran, off-campus, and graduate students, as well as populations such as first-generation and international students. Our SE team is committed to leadership, community, advising, and departmental excellence. We strive to serve our students and each other as colleagues.
We are seeking a dynamic professional with an earnest desire to contribute to a transformative student experience. The Student Involvement and Leadership Office values equally an individual with direct prior experience in the area of Fraternity & Sorority Life as much as a person with developed transferable skills in the areas of advising, program planning, leadership and student development, and administration derived from other student affairs, higher education, or educationally focused settings.
Part of a three-member professional staff team, the Student Program Associate for Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) role will work to develop and manage student involvement initiatives within the Student Involvement and Leadership Office with a particular focus on Fraternity & Sorority Life that encompasses 41 recognized chapters, four Greek leadership councils, and represents nearly one-quarter of GW’s undergraduate student body. This position will serve as an instrumental liaison between campus and external partners, students, alumni, Inter/National Offices, and other stakeholders on behalf of the institution and its priorities.
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life, the Student Program Associate for Fraternity & Sorority Life will be responsible for the following:
• Works with the Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) team to provide recommendations and oversight regarding fraternity and sorority student involvement and advising.
• Develops and manages FSL initiatives and programs, including oversight of FSL Chapters. This may also include the management of other (non-FSL) student specialty housing communities.
• Provides direction and commitment to FSL, Student Involvement, Student Life goals and priorities on community, advising, and the leadership and personal development of students.
• Supports management functions for all Fraternity & Sorority Life initiatives, including assignments; training and development of student staff; retreats, programs, and events.
• Advises a council and its representative chapters in the following areas but not limited to establishing expectations and procedures for chapters; establishes recruitment/intake policies and procedures; works with chapter advisors, alumni, and Inter/National Offices; and works with chapters on accountability and conduct.
• Serves as a liaison between campus and external partners, students, alumni, and other stakeholders on behalf of the Office of Student Life.
• Works closely with GW department stakeholders, such as GWPD, Students Rights and Responsibilities, Facilities Services, the Student Health Center, and other units within the Division for Student Affairs.
• Coordinates training and management of Fraternity and Sorority House Managers (undergraduate student staff) in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life, the counterpart Area Coordinator for Fraternity & Sorority Life, and a designee from University Housing.
• Shared oversight of FSL properties, along with the overall performance and evaluation of undergraduate student staff.
• Supports administrative functions, including budget preparations, assessment, statistical reporting, and records maintenance.
• Lives in a provided on-campus residence and serves as a member of the Administrator On-Call rotation responding to campus incidents and emergencies or other events that require a professional staff member’s presence. Ensures university policies and regulations are adhered to in the residence halls. Performs administrative searches when authorized by the Senior Administrator On-Call team.
• The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
