Description Director of Student Experience
The Director of Student Experience is responsible for creating and facilitating high-quality campus activities and programs supporting Midway University students' academic, social, and personal development through personalized engagement experiences across the student life cycle. The Director must possess strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate an awareness and concern for all aspects of student's lives, and be adaptive to student engagement interests. The Director has extensive contact with students and student-initiated events and works collaboratively with the broader campus community to achieve shared programming goals. This role works closely with other Student Affairs staff, Academic Affairs, and Athletics to ensure all Midway University students develop a sense of belonging in and out of the classroom.
Basic Responsibilities:
Oversee and facilitate all onboarding activities and events for new students, including summer orientation, welcome weeks, and first-year student mentorship programs.
Create, implement, and assess campus activities to cultivate academic, residential, and co-curricular engagement opportunities across all student types.
Oversee the student accommodations process for new and current students requesting academic or residential accommodations covered under Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Fair Housing Act (FHA) to ensure an equitable living and learning campus experience.
Oversee and develop recognized student clubs, organizations, and leadership programs.
Develop and implement community service programming.
Essential Functions:
Direct and execute large and small campus-wide activities and events, often during the evenings and weekends, aligned with the mission and values of Midway University and in collaboration with the broader programming goals of the Office for Student Affairs.
Develop and maintain ongoing assessment of programming efforts, including attendance, participation, peer institution benchmarking, and satisfaction, to make well-informed decisions to increase student satisfaction and overall campus experience.
Service as a primary advisor for the Midway Activities Council, Student Government Association, Eagle Outreach, and Ruth Slack Roach Scholars.
Facilitate withdrawal interviews for students seeking to depart from Midway University with other Student Life staff.
Establish and maintain professional mentoring relationships with students to provide service-oriented support and guidance.
Assist in developing and facilitating Homecoming and Family Weekend events in collaboration with Advancement, Athletics, and Student Affairs staff.
Supervise and develop paraprofessional student leaders/staff: Graduate assistant, Eagle Prep Leaders, Midway Activities Council Members, and collaborate with Student Success in the supervision of Eagle Prep Mentors.
Oversee transportation for international students, in collaboration with Campus Security and Admissions, including international student arrivals, SS card and licensing appointments, and scheduling of shuttles for students living off-campus to ensure full access to campus experience.
Oversee recognized student organizations by 1) Providing oversight to budgeting and risk management; 2) Training organization officers and developing of succession plans to ensure continuity of each organization; 3) Intentional recruitment of new organizations, advisors, and members; 4) Assist organizations in communicated events and activities with the campus community.
Develop and implement community service programming, including organizing one campus day of service for each fall and spring semester, alternative spring break trips, advertising service opportunities within the community, and track completed service hours.
Maintain and protect the privacy of student records, including all information covered by FERPA, and facilitate an accommodations process mindful of sensitive health and wellbeing information.
Serve in the professional staff on-call rotation responding to conduct and crisis issues after hours.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Position Requirements:
This position requires substantial evening and weekend hours, with daily activities and events typically occurring between 5 8 p.m. Weekday office hours may be altered to accommodate evening hours when University classes are in session based on campus needs, with prior approval from the Dean of Students.
Some travel is required for service trips or other off-campus student activities requiring the individual to be an approved University fleet driver.
Occasionally moves programming supplies weighing up to 25 pounds across campus as needed for campus events.
This person frequently communicates with students, faculty and staff requiring the ability to:
establish and maintain effective relationships with other management staff, students, faculty, staff, and the general public;
present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form;
listen and respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents or members of the university and community.
Qualifications Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree is required, with one to five years of experience in student affairs, with a preference of student activities experience. A masters degree in college student personnel, higher education, or related field is preferred;
Experience working with disability accommodations is highly desired.
