SUNY New Paltz and the Center for Student Engagement invites applications for the Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life. The Center for Student Engagement provides services including orientation and transition programs, leadership development and student activities, fraternity and sorority support, student union building operations, and community and civic engagement. The Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life is expected to:
Work collaboratively within and beyond this team to contribute to a vibrant student life program that engages students across campus.
Provide advisement to the United Sorority and Fraternity Association (USFA) and its sub-governing bodies in matters of recruitment, expansion, programming, leadership transitions, etc.
Provide full oversight, administration, leadership, and support to the FSL program including consultation and communication with (inter)national and regional chapter partners
Plan and coordinate leadership programming and educational opportunities for fraternity and sorority life leaders in collaboration with campus partners including, but not limited to council retreats, council/chapter transition, officer trainings, Presidents Council, risk prevention/harm reduction, hazing, alcohol and other drugs, new members experience/education, social justice, sexual assault prevention, and accountability
Ensure all chapters are registered and using the event management platform, Engage
Complete special projects and administrative assignments as needed such as grade reports, rosters, Greek Awards, etc.
Along with the Director for Student Engagement and Associate Director for Intercultural Student Engagement & Leadership, manage the adjudication process of all FSL conduct violations
Facilitate campus-wide hazing prevention initiatives including Hazing Prevention Week
Support and collaborate with chapter advisors for FSL chapters
Coordinate the FSL extension and recognition process
With the Associate Director of Intercultural Student Engagement & Leadership, plan and implement FSL awards and celebration programs
Create and manage programs, events, activities, and sustained learning experiences that transform campus culture
Assist in the consultation, review, and approval of student club events
Assist in the management of the student engagement/student organizations and clubs platform, Anthology Engage
Work will include nights and weekends in the form of rotational office coverage and assigned programming; flexibility of scheduled hours to support departmental programs expected
Serve on the Student Affairs committees and working groups
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in related field
1-2 year experience working in a university setting
Student and/or professional experience with knowledge in student activities, event planning, fraternity and sorority life, facilities operations, student conduct, hospitality management, or college student personnel
Excellent administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills
Able to work well in a diverse setting that includes students, parents/families, faculty, and staff
Ability to conceptualize, organize, and coordinate programs
A familiarity with educational goals, developmental and social needs of fraternity and sorority members and their organizations
Knowledge of Greek-letter organizations and councils (NPC, NPHC, IFC, MGC, LGC) This position may observe weekend and evening hours to meet the operational needs of the position.
Preferred:
Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, or other related fields
Experience with Anthology Engage software platform
Ability to work within a dynamic environment and a proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities
Proven commitment to and appreciation for issues of diversity and community. Ability to articulate issues and trends in higher education.
Experience designing and conducting assessment activities. Excellent written and oral communication skills
