Academic advisors directly contribute to the University's retention and degree completion goals. Each advisor manages an assigned student caseload, support students in all facets of their transition to the university and completion of their degree. Advisors engage early and often with their assigned caseload, working to resolve barriers to student completion. They monitor students' academic progress, coordinate with faculty, academic support services, and other University resources.

You will report to the Department Office Manager.

Responsibilities*

  • Advise students and assess their needs towards degree completion
  • Attend University Academic Advising meetings
  • Support student outreach programs
  • Participate in prospective-student recruitment for the Department

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a related profession such as Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Student Affairs or other relevant disciplines
  • Two (2) or more years of experience working with students in an academic setting.

Work Schedule

Hybrid -

Currently staff in the College of Health Sciences (CHS) are working in a hybrid work arrangement with the expectation being that staff will be present on campus three (3) days out of the work week, but able to work remotely the other two (2) days. This arrangement could be flexible to meet individual needs, but is subject to change based on the department's needs, University recommendations and policies.

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
