Department Description: The International Center supports the USD university community in advancing global citizenship. In 2015 USD received the Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization, awarded by the NAFSA (Association of International Educators). For undergraduate students, there are approximately 135 academic study abroad programs offered in 44 countries and 76 cities to experience and learn about different cultures, languages and customs. The graduate and professional programs also offer extensive international opportunities for working professionals as well as full-time graduate students. Our campus is enriched by having students and scholars from over 70 countries.

Detailed Description: The Director of the Office of International Studies Abroad oversees the Office of International Studies Abroad and provides leadership and vision to the team in the development of new study abroad programs, the enhancement of existing study abroad programs as well as in the study abroad application and participant selection process. Activities of the Office of International Studies Abroad (OISA) include: advising for and development of semester programs, short-term, faculty-led programs at the undergraduate and graduate level as well as undergraduate double degree programs. In addition, this office works to dutifully prepare both students and faculty to have a successful experience abroad through a series of preparatory meetings and specialized programming and promotional events in person and in the virtual environment.

Knauss School of Business (undergraduate and graduate semester & short-term programs)
Kroc School of Peace Studies (graduate short-term programs)
Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (undergraduate semester & short-term programs)
School of Law (graduate short-term programs)
University of San Diego Madrid Center (undergraduate and graduate semester & short-term programs)
University Ministry (short-term, non-academic credit)
Mulvaney Center for Community, Awareness & Social Action
Student Organizations
Collaborates with the following to provide guidance on best international education practices and university policies and processes:
Hahn School of Nursing (graduate short-term programs)
School of Leadership & Education Sciences (graduate short-term programs)
Athletic Department (short-term combination of sport and academic programming)
The Director of the Office of International Studies Abroad works closely with the Director of the Office of International Students and Scholars to develop collaborative activities and to provide a holistic advising experience for international students studying abroad through the Office of International Studies Abroad. This position serves as a voting member on both the University-Wide International Studies Abroad Committee and the International Center Advisory Council.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Office of International Studies Abroad (OISA)
Oversee and facilitate the development of undergraduate and graduate semester-long study abroad programs offered through the Office of International Studies Abroad.
Oversee and facilitate the development of undergraduate and graduate short-term faculty led study abroad programs offered through the Office of International Studies Abroad.
Facilitate short-term international opportunities for student groups, the Mulvaney Center for Community, Awareness, and Social Action, and the Athletic Department.
Responsible for the staff development and management of the Office of International Studies Abroad.
Foster highly functional and collaborative relationships within OISA, with the Office of International Students and Scholars, and the International Center Leadership Team.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to create new opportunities for USD students to participate in international education.
Oversee the management and usage of the Via system interface.
Work closely with the Associate Provost for International Affairs in promoting campus internationalization.
USD Campus-wide effort:
Work closely with Admissions to elevate USD's internationalization efforts with incoming students.
Work closely with the Schools and the College of Arts and Sciences to elevate internationalization efforts at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Collaborate extensively with Student Affairs, Wellness, Risk Management, and other offices at USD to facilitate international opportunities across campus.
Serve on various committees across campus to represent the International Center.
Facilitate the assessment of USD's Study Abroad programs in achieving various internationalization learning outcomes.
Representing and promoting USD in the national and international arena:
Remain current in best practices, policies, and procedures in the field of Study Abroad.
Represent USD with exchange partners and affiliated institutions on campus, at conferences, and in site visits.
Develop an active role with various organizations in the field of International Education

Expected to periodically travel domestically and internationally.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree required.
A minimum of five years of administrative experience in the field of international education is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree, or be nearing completion of a doctoral degree, preferred.
Experience in higher education and experience studying or living in a location outside their place of birth preferred.
