General Statement of Duties:

The Urban Action Institute collaborates with students, faculty, and community partners to address social, political, and economic injustices in our society through field-based learning and advocacy for a more equitable city.

In 2023, the UAI and the Office of Student Affairs at Worcester State University were awarded a grant from the Department of Higher Education to use funds through the American Rescue Plan Act to design and implement new strategies to combat hunger among the WSU student body.

The Food Security Consultant will collaborate with all parties of the ARPA Food Security Project, including co-principal investigators, the faculty research coordinator, the Urban Action Institute Assistant Director, and graduate and undergraduate students who are involved, to carry out a set of activities aimed at bolstering WSU's food security efforts. Specific activities include: a strategic mapping of on-campus grocer/EBT retail systems at relevant universities; a business plan to implement an on-campus grocer/EBT retail system at WSU, and a mechanism to evaluate a pilot on-campus grocer/EBT retail system.

This consultancy will include 60 non-consecutive days of work from April 2023 to June 2024.


Requirements:

Qualifications:

Must have at least 5-7 years of relevant experience working on community approaches to food security, college hunger, SNAP policy, EBT retail procedures, or other relevant experience.

Familiarity with food and small/medium-scale grocery vendors in Worcester.

Experience with strategic mapping, outreach, and assembling business plans.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).

Motivated, with demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to speak languages other than English preferred.
